Charleston Marathon Training Program
Training for the marathon begins on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 8am in Mount Pleasant and will meet on subsequent Saturdays until race day on January 14, 2012. Half-marathon training begins Saturday, October 15. Greg Shore has been appointed Director of Training for the program.
"For the marathon training, anybody who has run consistently for at least a year and can complete a 10-mile run when we begin should be able to complete the marathon training," said Coach Shore. "Anyone who has been running consistently for six months and who can run 3 miles should be able to complete the half-marathon training. Our goals are for all of the athletes to get to the start line healthy, to finish well, and to have fun." All runners will receive a training plan geared to their ability level and goals. The group will gather for a supervised and supported long run on Saturday mornings. Other scheduled runs will be done by the athletes on their own. Runners will receive advice on race preparation, hydration, nutrition, race tactics, and injury prevention. The cost for the marathon training is $175 and $125 for half-marathon training.
