In our effort to be green, the Charleston Marathon prefers internet registration. It is simple, fast and secure. However, you can download and print the 2017 Charleston Marathon Mail-in Registration and Waiver and mail them with your race fee(s). Please add a $5 processing fee for mail registrations.
The Charleston Marathon strongly suggests pre-registration as there is a participant limit and walk-up slots may not be available. Walk-up registration for all races will be available on Friday, January 13 from 11am-8pm at Packet Pick-up at the Charleston Area Convention Center and on Saturday, January 16 at the start at Burke Middle High School from 6:15am-7:15am. Walk up registration will be available for the 5k at North Charleston High School from 6:45am-7:45am. Again, we cannot guarantee any slots for walk-up registration.
The Charleston Marathon does not offer refunds.
We will also allow you to transfer to another individual online until December 31, 2016. If you need help finding someone to take over your spot, try our Facebook page. You simply need to log into your Eventbrite Account and change the information to the person taking the bib. We will allow bib transfers at Packet Pick-up for a fee of $10.
You must follow the proper procedures to transfer your bib. Please DO NOT just give your race registration to another person! Please help us keep the race and the awards fair. IDs will be checked at packet-pick up and the Charleston Marathon reserves the right to decline any registrant without proper identification.
If you wish to change distances, you may do so, but no refunds will be given if you change to a shorter distance. You may also upgrade to a longer distance, but you will be required to pay the difference in price at the current date. You can change distances until December 31, 2016, and then they will have to be handled at packet pick-up.
1. Log in to your Eventbrite account by going to https://www.eventbrite.com/login/ and enter the email address and password that you used at the time you registered.
2. Go to My Tickets. Then select My Tickets to go to your My Tickets page.
3. Locate your order on the My Tickets page and select Manage Order.
4. Select “Transfer.”
5. Choose your ticket type. Choose your new ticket type from the list (you’ll see any price increase on this page) and select Continue.
6. Review your Transfer Summary. Read the Transfer Summary to make sure it reflects the new ticket type you want. Then select Continue Transfer.
7. Double-check your registration information. Check over your registration information to make sure everything is in order. Depending on the ticket type you select, you may have to enter billing information for the price difference and possible fees.
8. Select “Register” or “Pay Now.” You’re not done (and you won’t be charged for anything) until you clickRegister or Pay Now if you have something to pay.
9. You’ll see a confirmation message when your transfer is complete. Once your transfer is complete, you’ll be given a new order number. An email confirmation and ticket will also be sent to you.
You may defer your registration from the 2017 Charleston Marathon, Half Marathon, Shrimp & Grits 5k and Bike Ride to the 2018 event by purchasing a deferral ticket the same way you registered for the race on Eventbrite. The fee to defer a registration is $10 for the 5k and Bike Ride and $20 for the half or full marathons. You may only defer to and from the same event from the 2017 Charleston Marathon to the 2018 Charleston Marathon. Deferred registrations may not be transferred to another person. Refunds will not be issued under any circumstances. All deferrals may be used only for the 2018 event. You may only defer an entry once (i.e., if you defer your 2017 entry to 2018, you will not be able to defer it again in 2017 to 2018). Deferrals are only available until online registration closes on January 11 at 12 noon. There will be no deferrals at the race expo.
The Charleston Marathon is rain or shine. Again, there will be no refunds. Should we have weather conditions that make the course unsafe, like ice, we will postpone to later in the morning or the next day.
There is a six and a half (6.5) hour time limit to finish the marathon course. All runners must finish the full marathon within the 6.5 hour time limit in order to receive an official time and a finisher’s medal. This will be strictly enforced by local authorities, for the health and safety of our participants.
Due to time limitations on the City of Charleston portion of the race, you must be able to run or speed walk the first 8 miles of the half marathon course (no longer than 4mph or 15 minutes per mile). This will be strictly enforced as roads will need to be reopened in a timely manner. We will have course time schedules posted to our website as we get closer to the event.
The Shrimp and Grits 5k is open to runners and walkers!
Yes, one long-sleeve tech, gender specific shirt is included with your registration. If you would like to purchase additional t-shirts, they are available for $20 when you register or on race day.

We have a NEW location for our Packet Pick-up/Late Registration and Health and Fitness Expo. It will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 between 11am-8 pm at the Charleston Area Convention Center located at at 5000 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston SC 29418.
If you miss the Packet Pick-up on Friday, you can also pick-up your packet on race day, Saturday, January 14, 2017. For the Half and Full Marathon, it will be at the start at Burke High School at 244 President Street, Charleston, SC 29403 from 6:15am-7:30am. For the 5k, it will be at the 5k start and finish near North Charleston High School at 1087 E. Montague Ave. North Charleston, SC 29405 from 6:45am-7:45am.
Yes, your friend/family can pick up your pack. Your family/friend will be required to sign for your pack at our Packet Pick-up on Friday, January 13, 2017.
The Shrimp and Grits 5k course is a loop that will begin and end near North Charleston High School at 5k Course.
The Half Marathon and Full Marathon will begin near Joe Riley Stadium at 330 Fishburne St. Charleston, SC 29403. Both will share the same finish as the Shrimp and Grits 5k near North Charleston High School at 4720 Jenkins Ave. North Charleston, SC 29405. Half Marathon Course. Full Marathon Course.
All parking for the races is free.
Half and Full Marathon – There will be plenty of parking near Burke High School at 244 President St. Charleston, SC 29403. There are several parking lots that we will utilize at the Citadel and across from Joe Riley Stadium. We will have more detailed information on parking as we get closer to the race.
We will have a shuttle available after the Full and Half Marathon to take you back to the start. This will run from 10am-4pm, on the half hour (or until full). This is a free service to all registered participants in the Full and Half marathon. We will also have a spectator shuttle that will run every half hour (or until full) starting at 8am from the start line to the finish line. Shuttle tickets for family/friends/spectators will be available for sale at our expo for $3 per transfer or walk up of $5.
Shrimp and Grits 5k – Will utilize the parking lot at North Charleston High School at 1087 E. Montague Ave. North Charleston, SC 29405. There will also be street parking available, and we will post more detailed information as we get closer to the race, as this will be dependent upon road closures.
There are limited parking areas in North Charleston at the finish, thus we encourage all participants in the Half and Full Marathon to park near the start near Burke High School at 244 President St. Charleston, SC 29403. If you choose to park at the start line downtown, we will be providing shuttle bus service back downtown after the race from the finish line every half hour (or until full) from 10am – 4pm. This is a free service for registered participants. We will also have a spectator shuttle that will run every half hour (or until full) starting at 8am from the start line to the finish line. Shuttle tickets for family/friends/spectators will be available for sale at our expo for $3 per transfer or walk up of $5.
We will have stages set up on the streets near North Charleston High School at 1087 E. Montague Ave. North Charleston, SC 29405 and E. Montague Avenue Business District. We will close the streets off to the public and have tents and stages set up for the awards ceremony, food, beverages and entertainment.
All participants will receive a commemorative medal, a long-sleeve tech race shirt, a race bag containing sponsor offers and free beer, mimosas and shrimp and grits at the finish!
Yes, jogging strollers are allowed in the 5K and we ask that they start towards the rear of the pack in order to maximize safety.
There will be pacers running the marathon and half marathon.

Yes, a truck will be on hand to bring your stuff to the finish. However, you must label it clearly with your name and bib number and it must be closed securely. We will also have clothing drops at the second and third aid stations. We cannot be responsible for any clothing thrown along the course. We will make our best effort to collect the clothing on the course and have a mass pick-up at the finish, but there is no guarantee that your belongings not clearly labeled will be retrieved.
Yes, you may rock your music throughout all of the races, but please be careful and be aware of your surroundings and any possible obstructions. We are going to mark all of the obstacles that we can but this is a road race so keep your eyes open!
The Charleston Marathon will provide water and old faithful GREEN Gatorade, mixed as the directions state. If you wish to make it weaker, there will be water at all aide stations. There will be ample cups, water, and Gatorade at all aide stations.

As a United States Track and Field sanctioned and insured event, our awards must be based on gun time in accordance with USATF Rule 245 (3).
There will be a $15 shipping and handling charge for t-shirts and awards mailed after the race. Please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org after the race for further instruction.
The Charleston Youth Marathon is recommended for children 7 to 17 years of age, who are in good health.
A marathon is 26.2 miles. The Charleston Youth Marathon is a modified marathon, which means your child can run or walk 25 miles prior to race day. Then on race day, your child completes the final 1.2 miles on the official Charleston Marathon course.
Charleston Youth Marathon race officials will have a complete list of particpants on-line training logs at check-in in order to verify eligibility. If you have manually logged your miles, you must bring your completed miles log to race officials by 3:00pm on January 13, 2017 in order to participate in the final leg of the Charleston Youth Marathon. Then at 3:30 pm the kids will run/walk the last 1.2 miles of the course.
Depending on your child’s level of fitness and eagerness, he or she should be able to complete the mileage from the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, up to the date of the race.
There is no fee and every participant will receive an official Charleston Youth Marathon Medal. Every youth that registers online will have access to sponsor promotions and coupons that we will have online. Additionally, if your child completes their 25 miles prior to race day, they will receive a Charleston Youth Marathon T-shirt.
Training may be conducted at home on your time schedule or at your child’s school (if offered).
If your child trains with an official group, the leader should help keep up with the mileage. If your child trains at home, an adult should accompany the child. You can measure the distance with your car, or take them to the local track or park. If you registered your child online, you can log on to your child’s Eventbrite registration account and log the miles each time they run/walk. Or you can print the 2017 Youth Marathon log document and log the miles manually.
